Beaverton, Ore. July 14, 2017 – – To celebrate National Macaroni & Cheese Day (July 14th), Reser’s Main St Bistro brand partnered with three Portland food bloggers in a “Macaroni & Cheese +3” recipe contest. These home cooks were asked to create something quick, easy and delicious. The catch? They could only add 3 ingredients to Reser’s Main St Bistro® Signature Macaroni & Cheese. In addition to bragging rights, at stake was $1,000 donation made in the winner’s name to The Oregon Food Bank.

“Macaroni and cheese is a family favorite,” states Caitlin Morrison, associate brand manager. “We wanted to find simple and creative recipes that everyone could enjoy, while also letting the rich flavors from the real milk and cheddar cheese that we use in our product, shine through.”

    This dish is full of fall harvest flavors—and features Oregon’s bounty. Sweet Italian sausage and cranberries are mixed in and topped with roasted hazelnuts.
  3. Sassy Pants Mac & Cheese: Contestant: Heather Cheney (
    All the things you love about mac and cheese made a little bit sassier with the addition of zesty green chilies and smoky candied bacon.

And The Winner is: Drum Roll…..
This year’s winning recipe is “Sassy Pants Mac and Cheese” created by Heather Cheney of Portland, Ore.
This recipe features a trifecta of great taste with sweet, heat and savory notes.

1) 20oz package of Reser’s Main St Bistro® Signature Macaroni & Cheese
6 strips of bacon
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper
3 tablespoons canned fire roasted diced green chiles
Finely chopped fresh cilantro and chipotle chili powder as garnish

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Place bacon slices in a bowl and toss with the brown sugar, salt and pepper. Lay each slice on the lined baking sheet and sprinkle any remaining sugar over the bacon.
Bake bacon for about 15 minutes or until golden brown– bacon will “crisp-up” after cooling off a bit so don’t worry if it looks limp. Transfer bacon from baking sheet onto a cutting board and set aside.
Partially remove the film from the top of the mac and cheese and stir in green chiles. Replace film and microwave for 3 minutes.
Carefully remove the film and stir. Microwave an additional minute or until hot.
Chop candied bacon into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle over the top of the heated mac and cheese.
Serve garnished with fresh cilantro and chipotle chili powder if desired.
