No. 20 CRAFTSMAN Toyota Camry News and Notes:

  • JONES AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY ROVAL: For this week’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS), teams will tackle the newly designed ROVAL combining the CMS traditional oval and infield road course. While this will mark Erik Jones’ first start on the ROVAL, he has competed at the track on the traditional oval three times in his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) career. In his three starts at the track, his career-best finish is seventh. Jones has four road course starts in his MENCS competition, with his career-best finishes coming this season with a seventh-place finish at Sonoma Raceway and a fifth-place finish at Watkins Glen International.
  • THIS WEEK ON THE NO. 20 CAMRY: Reser’s Fine Foods will have their final primary race of the season this weekend with Erik Jones and the No. 20 Toyota Camry team. While this will be their last primary race for the season, Reser’s Fine Foods will finish the season strong with the team as they have done each week as an associate partner.

  • RICHMOND RECAP: Racing under the lights Saturday night at Richmond Raceway, Erik Jones and the No. 20 CRAFTSMAN Toyota Camry team started the 400-lap race from eighth and after a hard fought night, finished 11th.
  • POINT STANDINGS UPDATE: Following the race at Richmond Raceway, Jones sits 15th in the point standings, 102 points out of first place and 21 points behind 12th place and the cutoff for the next round of the Playoffs.
  • RACE INFO: The Bank of America 500 (k) at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ROVAL is scheduled for Sunday, September 30, 2018. Coverage will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET on NBC, Sirius XM Channel 90 and PRN Radio.

From the Driver’s Seat:

Erik Jones: “The ROVAL is kind of an unknown I think for everybody, so it’s going to be a new experience and something that we are all going to have to learn as we go this weekend. I think we’re excited as a team to have some laps there and had a pretty decent test when we all got to test there. We’ll work hard this weekend. We need to have a solid race and get as many points as we can and try to advance on to the next round. That’s our main goal this weekend, so we’ll keep ourselves out of trouble and hopefully have a solid race.”

From the Pit Box:

Chris Gayle: “This is going to be an interesting weekend for all teams, not just those in the Playoffs, or guys doing battle for a transfer spot. Most drivers/Crew Chiefs/Teams don’t know what to expect, and how the racing is going to be this weekend. There wasn’t much actual racing at any of the tests, and lots of cars damaged just trying to make single car runs without the influence of other cars trying to race and pass each other. I think this has most of the garage, myself included, a little weary about making sure the car is robust enough to withstand a 109-lap race on this track, and also nervous about what kind of chaos could happen from other drivers/teams making mistakes. We also have a slight tire change compared to what we tested with, so to go with the theme, another unknown in my opinion. It’s going to be very interesting to see how much passing can happen and what the practice sessions are like with all the teams on the track at once. Hopefully that will give us a little more insight into how the race may play out. Really excited to have Reser’s on board this weekend and we plan to do everything we can to get them a great finish and transfer into the next round of the Playoffs.”
